If you have been pulled over for drunk driving in Grand Rapids, you are going through a range of emotions.

  • I did drink that night, so I just want to get this over with and plead guilty….hopefully the judge will understand.
  • I am so embarrassed that my friends and family may find out about this…better to keep it quiet and hurry up
  • I cannot afford an attorney and they may not help me anyway
  • I can keep my license hopefully because I drive for work

Our firm handles the following Michigan DUI charges:

  • OWI – Operating While Intoxicated
  • OWVI – Operating While Visually Impaired
  • UBAL – Unlawful Blood Alcohol Level

The main problem I see at arraignments (your first appearance in court) is that most people charged with DUI – OWI simply plead guilty and then wonder why they have a suspended license for 30 days.  So….they drive anyway and all of a sudden they are pulled over again and have another misdemeanor of Driving While License Suspended….and they are possibly in jail.

All of this could have been avoided with a reduction from OWI to Operating While Visibly Impaired which will give you a restricted license from day one. In addition, you may have defenses to your OWI charge where you can get it reduced to a non-alcohol offense of civil infraction. I have seen many cases where the police stop a vehicle for no reason (a violation of your rights) they do not conduct the sobriety tests properly (a jury does not like this) or they do not handle the datamaster properly at the station (there are administrative rules that govern its operation…it is a machine!) You owe it to yourself to find the money to hire an experienced DUI attorney.

The Grand Rapids district courts are located in Kent County and they are numerous and found in many different cities and villages in Kent County. For this reason, it is a very good reason to hire an attorney to deal with the different judges and their different requirements when it comes to drunk driving.

Our firm will also make sure that you get a substance abuse assessment to deal with any alcohol dependency issues you might or might NOT have. This is critical to properly handling your drunk driving case.
